"Legal Help" Public Union

 The Legal Help public union was founded by Ilgar Gasimov and other lawyers in Lankaran, Azerbaijan in June 2003. The organization was officially registered as a non-governmental organization by the Ministry of Justice on 31.07.2004. "Legal Help" PU operates under the authority of the Constitution and NGO laws.

  The mission of the Union: Promote democratic and rule of law values in Azerbaijan and a healthier civil society and defend basic human rights and freedoms.

 Duties of Union: Educate the public in democratic values and obligations, increase legal and political awareness, establish increased local rule, promote transparent and regular elections, and support traditionally unrepresented groups, including refugees, the handicapped, and orphans.

To achieve these goals, Legal Help PU has held seminars and trainings, offering free legal aid to pensioners, military families, veterans, women and youth groups.

Legal Help signed an agreement with the O. Mirzayev city orphanage in Lankaran to provide legal services for the five years.

Legal Help is a member of Azerbaijan Lawyers' Union and Azerbaijan Lawyers' Forum and has 18 members and 24 volunteers.

Legal Help chairman Ilgar Gasimov is a member of newly-formed committee Xilas - the committee against human trafficking and serves as an assistant to the chairman of the commission.

Legal Help has also connected with several international organizations for collaborative projects. Many members of Legal Help have been certified to conduct seminars and trainings and frequently take part in crossborder projects with the United States, Russia, Poland, and Georgia. Legal Help chairman Ilgar Gasimov participated in the 21-day Defend and Support of Society and Human rights program in the U.S. in September 2005.
